World-traveling angler Steve Wozniak, who I wrote about earlier in the week, is now just eight species away from catching his 1,000 species of fish.
When we last checked in with Wozniak, he was up to 990 fish, but he recently landed two more species before leaving the U.S. once again.
World renowned angler Steve Wozniak is closing in on catching his 1,000th species of fish.
Wozniak has now reached the 990-fish mark, after landing three new species in Oahu, Hawaii.
He is now 10 fish away from becoming what is believed to be the first angler to catch 1,000 different species of fish.
A look at the latest fly-fishing catches up for International Game Fish Association world record consideration, according to IGFA world records coordinator Jack Vitek:
Fly fishing off the coast of Capcana, Dominican Republic, Stacey Parkerson of Coral Springs, Fla., landed a 46-pound, 10-ounce white marlin on June 6 - likely the women's IGFA 12-pound tippet record as the record is currently vacant. Parkerson fought the white marline for 15 minutes before landing the fish, which was caught on a custom fly on a trip guided by Scott Jones.
International Game Fish Association conservation director Jason Schratwieser and other leaders in the recreational fishing community met with NOAA administrator Jane Lubchenco and Southeast Science Center of the National Marine Fisheries Service directors Bonnie Ponwith last month to discuss how the BP oil spill will affect the recreational fishing community and where to go from here.
